A WISH COME TRUE. I HAD ALWAYS WANTED TO SEE THE GLORY OF ANGKOR'S MONUMENTS AND WAS GLAD WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED WITH IT'S GRANDEUR BUT AS ALWAYS AT THE PEAK TOURIST SEASON THERE WAS JUST TOO BIG A CROWD
Pesky tourists always getting into your picture. |
Pesky shutterbugs also abound. |
Angkor Thom. Demon statues on the right side of the causeway leading to the entry tower. |
Thousands of tourists go thru the gateway daily. |
Angkor Thom entrance gateway above the tourists. |
Some of the Demon heads have been intentionally removed and replaced with replicas by the Government. |
The roof of the gateway is still well preserved and sound. |
Stone lions leading to Bayon. |
Bayon in the background. |
Sandstone columns still standing, withstanding the ravages of the time. |
Some did not survive though. |
Bas re-liefs on the first level gallery. |
Note the accurate joints of the stone blocks. Even with modern technology you can't replicate these monuments. |
Group of three Apsaras dancing on a lotus plant carved onto a column. |
The fishes, from my observation look like the masheer(tor tambroides) or kelah. Note the large scales. |
Tourists abound on the 2nd level of the famous Bayon. |
Some of 2000 large faces carved on the 54 towers. |
